Unlocking the Mysteries of the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

If you find yourself facing the imposing entrance of the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun in the northern Yawata Plains early in your adventures in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you may be puzzled by the seemingly insurmountable obstacle of rocks blocking your path. Fear not, for a simple solution exists to gain access to this sealed cave and reap the rewards hidden within. The only catch is that it may require a touch of patience, especially depending on your progress in the campaign.

To enter the depths of the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun, you must first unlock Yasuke as a playable character.

The entrance to the kofun is blocked by rocks that can only be cleared by detonating one of the red explosive barrels located at the top of the stairs leading to the entrance. These barrels are too heavy for Naoe to lift, which means she will not be able to interact with them while playing as her.

Fortunately, Yasuke becomes available as a second playable character shortly after completing the campaign mission titled ‘Temple of the Horseman’, typically around eight to ten hours into the story. Once you have Yasuke in your roster, you can return to the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun and carry one of the explosive barrels to the entrance. Place it in front of the obstacle, retreat to a safe distance, and shoot it with your bow or teppo to trigger the explosion. The blast will clear the rocks blocking your path, allowing you to explore the kofun and plunder its treasures, including a valuable Knowledge Point that can be used to unlock new skills for both Yasuke and Naoe.

Now that you’ve unlocked the secrets of the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun, be sure to investigate all the Kuji-Kiri locations in AC Shadows to acquire more Knowledge Points and delve deeper into Naoe’s background.
