Riot Games is known for adding new agents and maps to VALORANT, keeping the gameplay fresh and diverse. This continuous evolution of the game’s meta in professional play not only keeps fans engaged but also fuels excitement through new content.

As the agent roster expands, VALORANT presents a challenge for beginners and even experienced players. The increasing number of utility combinations, especially with impactful agents like Tejo, makes it hard for players to counter effectively.

Introducing an agent ban system could potentially address this issue and add excitement to professional play by eliminating one-trick agent players. A recent press conference with John Goscicki, Agent Lead at Riot Games, explored this potential solution.

Agent Ban System Not on Riot’s Radar—For Now

In a conversation with ESI, Goscicki confirmed that Riot does not currently see a need for an agent ban system.

He explained, “We feel like right now we’re in a pretty good state and don’t need to worry about the overall agent pool.”

While acknowledging the growing roster, Goscicki mentioned that Riot is closely monitoring the situation and has strategies in place to manage the gradual expansion.

He elaborated, “Our approach involves careful consideration of our release schedule for new agents each year and drawing inspiration from existing agents to maintain balance and prevent overpowering additions.”

Referring to the latest agent, Waylay, Goscicki illustrated how aspects of her abilities draw from existing agents’ mechanics, ensuring a balanced gameplay experience.

While hinting at the potential need for a different approach as the agent roster expands, Goscicki indicated that Riot may consider the agent ban system in the future. Currently, however, he believes that Riot has control over the situation.
