Minecraft’s Happy Ghasts Add New Flying Mechanic To Game

Introducing the Happy Ghast: Minecraft’s Friendly New Mob

With each new game drop in Minecraft, players are treated to exciting new mobs. The second drop of 2025, however, brings something truly special – the happy ghast. Unlike its fiery counterpart, the happy ghast is a peaceful creature that just wants to be your friend.

This new variant of ghast offers players the unique ability to fly around the overworld. While seasoned players may already have methods for flight, the happy ghast provides a way for newer players to experience this mechanic much earlier in the game. What’s more, up to four players can ride on a single happy ghast, making group adventures easier and more enjoyable.

But acquiring your own happy ghast is no easy task. Here’s how you can get your hands on this friendly flying mob:

How to procure your own ghost plane

First, you’ll need to find a dried ghast block in the Nether. This shriveled block is essentially a dehydrated form of the ghast, which players can mine and bring to the overworld for the hydration process to begin.

Once back in the Overworld, submerge the dried block in water and wait for it to transform into a happy ghastling. The process takes about 20 real-world minutes, and the ghastling will eventually grow into a full happy ghast. If you’re feeling impatient, feeding the ghastling snowballs can speed up the growth process.

Before you can take to the skies on your new happy ghast, you’ll need to craft a harness using glass, leather, and wool blocks. The harness comes in various colors based on the wool used in crafting, adding a fun customization element to your flying companion.

Building in the sky

Once you’ve harnessed your happy ghast, you can use it to easily construct structures in the sky. Simply disengage yourself from the harness, and you’ll be standing on top of the ghast, ready to build. It’s like having a floating scaffolding for your building projects.

Players can also incorporate happy ghasts into parkour course builds by leashing them or mounting them on minecarts to create moving platforms. The possibilities for creativity and innovation are endless with this new mob.

While there is no official release date for the second game drop of 2025, players can look forward to the happy ghast, as well as the player locator bar to track down others in their realm. With more updates and content on the horizon, Minecraft fans have plenty to be excited about in the coming year.
