Ubisoft, the developer and publisher, took to social media to express gratitude to fans for “joining the journey in Feudal Japan”.

“2 MILLION PLAYERS!” Ubisoft exclaimed. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone! Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey. Thank you for joining the journey in Feudal Japan!”

On Steam, the game has seen a peak concurrent player count of 60,086 today, significantly higher than the launch day peak of 41,412. Additionally, it has garnered a Very Positive user score rating on Valve’s platform.

While Shadows still has some ground to cover to match the success of Valhalla, the latest entry in the series, the strong launch performance indicates positive momentum for Ubisoft. This comes at a crucial time for the company, which is exploring strategic options to revive its business.

“Majestic in scope, impressive in detail, Ubisoft’s epic adventure honours the beauty of feudal Japan, even if its strongest moments are saved for the personal stories of its two protagonists,” Tom wrote in Eurogamer’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows review, giving it a four out of five-star rating.
