Minecraft’s First Game Drop Of 2025 Brings Animal Variants And New Plants

Exciting Updates Coming to Minecraft in 2025

Since September 2023, Minecraft has changed its update strategy to bi-annual “game drops” that introduce new mobs, blocks, and items to the game. The most recent Minecraft Live event unveiled what players can expect from 2025’s first game drop, Spring Into Life.

Plants are getting a major upgrade in the form of firefly bushes, a long-awaited addition to the game. These bushes, which emit twinkling lights akin to fireflies, will grow in swampy biomes and near water sources. Players can even place these plant blocks underneath other blocks to add a luminous touch to their builds.

Exciting Plant Additions Include:

  • Leaf litter
  • Falling leaves
  • Dry grass
  • Cactus flowers
  • Bushes

In addition to new plants, Minecraft is expanding its roster of animals with cold and warm variants of pigs, cows, and chickens. Players will now encounter warm variant cows in deserts and cold variant cows in snowy plains, adding more diversity to the animal kingdom within the game.

Other Updates from the First Game Drop:

  • Sheep spawning has been diversified based on biomes
  • Wolf variants now have distinct personalities reflected in their sounds
  • Ambient desert sounds have been added
  • A new lodestone recipe requiring iron ingots has been introduced
  • Cartographers now sell maps to biomes and villages
  • Wandering traders offer more items at discounted prices
  • Spawn eggs in creative mode have been revamped to resemble the spawned mob

The first game drop of 2025 is set to launch on March 25, bringing a wave of new content to Minecraft players. Stay tuned for more updates on Game Drop 2, which was also announced at Minecraft Live without a confirmed release date yet.
