Capcom vs. SNK 2 is celebrated as a cherished classic in the fighting game genre, and fans can now experience a groundbreaking new translation patch that provides the complete English localization it has always warranted, including an impressive volume of lines that have never been officially translated.
The game has seen several official translations over the years, but these have never encompassed the Dreamcast edition, which many consider the original and perhaps the ultimate home version. Thankfully, a dedicated group of retro modders, led by Derek Pascarella, has introduced a comprehensive translation patch for the Dreamcast version that delivers a wealth of fresh and previously unseen content.
(1/9) It is with tremendous pride that I announce our v1.0 release of the English translation patch for “Capcom vs. SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting 2001” on the SEGA Dreamcast! A lot of polish went into this special release, so read on! DOWNLOAD: pic.twitter.com/QS5iB47tSxMarch 30, 2025
“First off, no official Western localization ever managed to fully translate the ~5,100 post-win quotes,” Pascarella states on Twitter. “What we received was roughly one-seventh of the original dialogue, albeit significantly toned down (to put it gently)… UNTIL NOW! All this lively dialogue is now included and translated into English!”
Furthermore, this patch incorporates features from Capcom vs. SNK 2’s PlayStation 2 version and introduces a collection of new bonus content, which features various newly-translated developer interviews along with an additional, fully completed save file available for download to your VMU.
You can access a detailed list of all modifications—along with the patch for installation on your console or emulator—via Pascarella’s GitHub repository.
There are many ways to enjoy Capcom vs. SNK 2, including an official release in the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2. While this patch isn’t rescuing a forgotten Japanese classic from total obscurity in English-speaking regions, its expansive enhancements certainly make a strong case for reviving your old VMU.
