Ark 2 Set for 2028 Release with Exciting Roadmap Ahead
Studio Wildcard has made a splash recently by confirming that Ark 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Ark: Survival Evolved, is on track for a 2028 release. During a presentation for Snail Games’ Investor Day, Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder of Studio Wildcard, shared an extensive two-year roadmap for the updated remaster, Ark: Survival Ascended, which hit the shelves in 2023. This roadmap features some intriguing content, starting with the first major expansion pack, Lost Colony, launching this week. It’s all geared up to lead into a significant Q4 2027 expansion called Legacy of Santiago, which aims to test several ideas planned for the actual sequel.
“It’s a prequel to ARK 2 that basically directly ties into that narrative and tests out a lot of that game’s mechanics and features,” Stieglitz explained.
When asked if the roadmap was hinting at a 2028 release for Ark 2, Stieglitz replied affirmatively, stating, “That’s our intention.” He further elaborated on the developmental approach, saying, “One of the things about doing ARK 2 was that we felt we had to learn a lot more about how to make the kind of game we wanted to do, and to do it kind of in phases. Learning about both the technology and the mechanics seemed, to us, safer than to just try to go and release a whole standalone product called ARK 2.”
Ark 2 was initially unveiled during the 2020 Game Awards, much to the excitement of fans, coupled with an action-packed trailer that prominently featured Vin Diesel. While Diesel was slated to star in the game, the specifics of his involvement remain uncertain. Stieglitz hinted that the narrative may heavily rely on how much time Diesel can commit to performance. “The question is: How much performance are we going to get from him?” he noted. “Are we going to get one day, five days, eight hours? You don’t know. And the scope of how much performance we are going to get determines just how the narrative is going to play out. We have a narrative that’s if we get a lot of Vin Diesel, this is what we will do, and if we get a little Vin Diesel, this is what we will do.”
