Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows already allows players to adjust their difficulty settings for both stealth and combat, but they are planning to enhance this experience even more.
During a conversation at the 2025 Game Developer’s Conference, Jonathon Dumont, the creative director for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, emphasized that the team is “constantly listening and observing player behavior” as they address bugs and implement updates in their expansive open-world setting of Feudal Japan.
A common point of discussion among players seems to be the game’s difficulty, particularly for those seeking more challenges. Dumont mentioned that the developers are “actively considering” the addition of a more difficult setting to cater to hardcore gamers. He even playfully challenged the most dedicated players: “How challenging do you want it? We’re taking these discussions seriously and tracking player feedback.”
Currently, Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers easy, normal, and expert difficulty options for both combat and stealth gameplay. Adjusting the difficulty in stealth means enemies become more vigilant, forcing players to be cautious rather than sprinting across rooftops unchecked. This leads to curiosity about just how difficult Ubisoft intends to make it.
For the time being, the team is focused on addressing the “constructive feedback” they’ve received from the community. “While we can’t implement every suggestion, we’re committed to making meaningful changes. Expect several bug fixes and feature enhancements in the next updates,” Dumont shared. “I can’t provide specific details at this moment. However, the development team is always working on improvements, and players should notice a difference in their gameplay experience with Shadows in the coming months.”
The delays surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows were primarily dedicated to refining the RPG elements, as confirmed by the creative director, rather than making drastic changes influenced by feedback from Star Wars Outlaws.
