Assassin’s Creed Shadows has topped the charts as the highest-grossing video game in the US for dollar sales during its first three weeks since its release.
This insight comes from Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, referencing data available up to April 5 from Circana’s retail tracking service. In terms of sales so far this year, the only title that has outperformed Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Capcom’s blockbuster action-RPG, Monster Hunter Wilds, which has been shattering sales records.
Ubisoft’s latest expansive title has achieved success by nearly all metrics, including both player feedback and critical reviews. According to a review from GamesRadar, the game received a strong 4 out of 5 stars, featuring the following remarks:
“There’s an examination of Ubisoft’s formula here, a lunge toward the texture that’s reshaped RPGs in recent years, but the studio’s moreish open world formula is still there. Not every idea comes together neatly, and two phenomenal protagonists feel wasted on a lackluster story, but this is a titan in the same leagues as series staples Assassin’s Creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag – and Ubisoft’s best RPG to date.” – GamesRadar
Furthermore, Assassin’s Creed Shadows enjoys a “generally favorable” Metacritic score of 81 as of this writing. Additionally, about 80% of over 16,000 Steam user reviews have been positive, leading to an overall rating classified as “very positive.”
Despite its successful launch, Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues to receive updates aimed at enhancing performance and user experience. The latest patch addresses a variety of minor issues, including the tedious dismantling process and the frame rate cap for hideouts.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows represents the closest experience to Ezio’s timeline since the revelations, which could have significant implications for Codename Hexe.
