Neil Newbon, renowned for voicing Astarion, one of the standout Baldur’s Gate 3 companions, expressed his eagerness to reprise his role in a possible sequel.
In a recent chat with TheGamer during the BAFTA Games Awards, he humorously remarked that he would “have to be dead” before letting another actor voice Astarion in future installments. Despite the jest, Newbon sincerely wishes to step back into the shoes of the white-haired character when the opportunity arises, especially since Hasbro is currently “talking to lots of partners” regarding the future of Baldur’s Gate.
In his words, “Listen, I have no control over that, so, ultimately, if somebody played him in something else, I’d just hope that they’d come at it the same way I did, in terms of looking at the core character and their life story and their history and their backstory, and honor that story as much as possible, and not run to a trope.” However, he acknowledges the uncertainty of the future, stating, “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I hope I get to play him again.”
He is not alone in his desire to return to the role within a new game. Jennifer English, who portrayed Shadowheart, has previously shared her willingness to return, stating she’s “open” to another RPG experience. As a devoted fan of Baldur’s Gate, I personally would love to see the original cast reunited in Baldur’s Gate 4 or any upcoming projects set within the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
There’s a lot of potential on the horizon, particularly as Hasbro is developing the eagerly awaited sequel and also working on an exciting new D&D game that is separate from the existing series. However, it’s worth noting that these titles will not be produced by Larian Studios, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, as they are currently focused on their original projects—two ambitious RPGs which include a game codenamed Excalibur, as disclosed by the studio last year.
