Get ready, because the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived—Battlefield 6 day has officially landed! It feels surreal to say this, especially considering the rocky start Battlefield 2042 had, but here we are.
First off, if you’re looking to catch up on everything surrounding Battlefield 6, the reviews are crucial unless you prefer to dive in spoiler-free. Metacritic reveals that Battlefield 6 has garnered the highest ratings in the series for some time. While the campaign has received mixed reviews, the multiplayer experience is drawing positive attention, which is encouraging since that’s where most players spend their time.
In our review, which you can find linked above, we awarded this first-person shooter a solid four stars, noting that it feels “more polished than it is groundbreaking.” We explained that “Battlefield 6 presents a meticulously designed and layered multiplayer experience that opts for refinement over innovation, enhancing established military genre elements.” While the individual campaign may not be groundbreaking, the multiplayer shines when all the pieces come together.
What’s Included in the Day One Patch
If you’re interested in the nitty-gritty, the day one patch for Battlefield 6 is a hefty 2,800 words long, focusing on aspects like movement mechanics, vehicle adjustments, and the most effective weaponry. Notably, developer insights included encouragement for players to explore both open and closed loadouts. Some gamers had concerns that the Closed Weapons mode was unjustly downplayed during the beta, but a lead at DICE reassured fans, stating, “We monitored how many users selected it based on its menu positioning.”
On another note, after a staggering 92 million hours of open beta testing, the developers acknowledged, “We have taken note of the high demand for naval warfare.” Perhaps this is something to expect in future updates?
Insights from Battlefield Studios
Our features editor recently shared thoughts on Battlefield 6’s campaign, describing it as “playfully absurd.” After experiencing all nine levels, he concluded, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.” It may not be on par with Helldivers 2, but the campaign certainly has its charm, showcasing epic moments such as saving the president, demolishing dams, and parachuting into Gibraltar to thwart an invasion. All in a day’s work!
We’ve heard plenty from the collective studios of DICE, Criterion, Motive, and Ripple Effect leading up to the launch. You might remember the beta for the humorous memes surrounding smaller maps. Design director Salim Fasahat explained that there “was a purpose” behind those design choices; smaller maps facilitate testing, and larger environments are set to be introduced at launch. So let’s ease up on the criticism.
And for those curious about the future of Battlefield Labs despite various leaks, the answer is a resounding ‘no.’ Salim Fasahat commented, “Battlefield Labs has been integral to our development process for this title, and we anticipate it will continue to be vital in future projects.” So expect Labs to play a significant role moving forward. Regarding that naval warfare interest, only time will tell.
Final Countdown to Launch
Just three hours remain until launch, team!
I’m back, having refueled with lunch. A warm welcome to everyone just waking up or counting down until the big moment. We’re only two hours away from Battlefield 6 going live.
To our PC players, I sincerely hope your systems are prepared. This week, EA confirmed the final specifications required for Battlefield 6 on PC, which are similar to those that “a significant number” of beta participants couldn’t meet. On the bright side, they were kind enough to break it down by FPS, resolution, and settings.
One pressing question for any multiplayer-focused game is whether the servers will handle the demand. Although it seems that fewer games struggle during launch these days, you never know what could happen. However, Battlefield 6 lead producer David Sirland insists that the servers “should be” equipped for this release. That’s precisely why they run betas, after all.
Server Updates and Anticipation
As we gear up for Battlefield 6’s launch later today, here’s a quick update on login queues. The game is set to become available at 15:00 UTC, and we expect a surge of players logging in all at once for this highly anticipated kickoff. To facilitate a smooth login process for…
Oh, and speaking of servers…
It looks like the surge might lead to lengthy queues depending on how massive the launch truly is, which, let’s face it, will likely be quite substantial.
Just 30 minutes left until launch, troops!
And, here we go! Battlefield 6 should now be unlocking for everyone. Let’s show some courtesy to those servers.
On a lighter note, though the campaign has been deemed ‘mediocre’ by some in the community, excitement remains high as players dive in to form their own opinions.
Now that Battlefield 6 is officially live, many players are starting to unpack and install the game. Given the large day-one update, this isn’t too surprising, with the race to join the Battlefield 6 queue coming down to download speed. Just 20 minutes since launch, and we’re seeing queues reaching around 500,000 on both PC and PlayStation. What a noteworthy debut!
Things like this are definitely not ideal, but on a positive note, the queues seem to be moving at a decent pace. Our very own Will was in that PS5 queue but managed to get through in just 10 minutes.
If you’re curious about how many players are currently attempting to log into Battlefield 6, there are already 600,000 online on Steam alone. That’s four times the peak of Battlefield 5 and nearing EA’s all-time high with Apex Legends. With the weekend approaching, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see ludicrous numbers at peak hours.
Just a quick update: Battlefield 6 has hit 663,000 concurrent players on Steam, setting a new record for EA by surpassing Apex Legends.
As things start to settle, I’m heading off into the weekend. If any new developments arise, rest assured we’ll keep you informed right here.
