Bloober Team is still keeping a tight lid on Project M, the anticipated horror title exclusive to Nintendo platforms. However, CEO Piotr Babieno has let slip a few intriguing tidbits. Announced quietly back in July 2024, details about the game have been scarce, yet it’s described as “extremely important” to the studio’s lineup. It’s exciting to finally see an update emerge, especially from Babieno himself, who sounds genuinely enthusiastic about the project.
In a conversation with Nintendo Insider, he expressed just how tough it is for him to keep Project M under wraps. “You have no idea how hard it is for me not to reveal what Project M truly is—but for now, it’s still too early to talk about it. We’re confident that we’ll be able to share the first details very soon,” he stated.
While specifics remain elusive, Babieno did hint that fans of franchises like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Limbo, and Eternal Darkness will find themselves right at home. He further teased a bold twist to the horror experience that’s never been attempted before, claiming this is a vision that can only thrive on Nintendo’s hardware.
One aspect I’m particularly excited about is the potential for innovative gameplay mechanics. Babieno mentioned that one of his all-time favorite horror games is Zombi U, especially due to how it used the Wii U’s second screen to ramp up tension. I can’t help but wonder if he’s hinting at a clever gameplay feature for Project M that could take advantage of the Switch 2’s second screen or mouse functionality. While the Switch may lag behind in raw performance compared to PlayStation and Xbox, there’s a chance they could leverage unique mechanics to create something truly engaging. Fingers crossed it won’t just be another gimmick!
Babieno has previously expressed a desire to revive the golden era of GameCube horror classics, such as Resident Evil 4 and Eternal Darkness. With his ambitions and the evident anticipation surrounding Project M, it seems like we could be in for something special.
