Borderlands 4 has officially been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2, making it one of the anticipated titles available on the new console later this year.
The inclusion of Borderlands 4 in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct news today took many by surprise. Alongside the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, players can expect to experience this looter shooter on the new Nintendo console on September 23. This release will follow closely after the console’s debut, which is set for June 5.
Gearbox has referred to this installment as “the most ambitious Borderlands yet,” a sentiment reiterated by studio founding member Randy Pitchford during today’s Direct. He emphasized that this next installment is “the most ambitious Borderlands game we’ve ever crafted,” with promises of further announcements in the coming months. The gameplay footage certainly hints at high expectations for its scope and design.

“Loot and shoot your way through a world filled with wild enemies and outrageous enemies,” remarks Pitchford—a description that can equally represent the previous titles in the franchise. While specifics about the action RPG remain scarce during today’s Nintendo showcase, the confirmation of its release on the Switch 2 is a significant highlight. Moreover, it joins a robust lineup of other exciting titles.
Among the wonderfully surprising additions to the Switch 2’s roster are Duskbloods, a new title from FromSoftware that will be a console exclusive, the eagerly awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong, Toby Fox’s Deltarune, and Project 007, marking the first new James Bond game for Nintendo in over a decade—all indications pointing to the fact that this console is far more powerful than its predecessor.
