Bravely Default is set to make a thrilling return, and the series’ producer expresses hopes of continuing the game development “into the future.”
During the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, Square Enix revealed that Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will be revitalizing the beloved classic by enhancing its graphics, reintroducing online features, and incorporating mini-games that leverage the console’s innovative capabilities. This title will also launch alongside the Switch 2.
Tomoya Asano, the general producer for the Bravely series, shared his excitement in a heartfelt message to fans, suggesting possibilities for the future of these turn-based RPGs.
“It’s been a while since we celebrated the 10-year anniversary, but I’m thrilled that my aspirations have realized themselves in this manner,” Asano conveyed.
He further elaborated that the original Bravely Default set a solid foundation and “eventually inspired Octopath Traveler and other HD-2D games we developed later.” Although the original tagline—”a new lineage of RPG”—may have sounded exaggerated at the time, Asano reflects, “it feels somewhat like a lineage now” due to its significant impact throughout the years.
“I hope that we can carry on this lineage into the future, too,” he hints, “but if you haven’t played the original game, then I highly recommend you try Bravely Default Flying Fairy.”
For those who may not know, Bravely Default was a remarkable JRPG on the 3DS, standing out in a console rich with notable titles. It creatively reinterpreted Final Fantasy’s traditional class system, introduced players to the BP-based combat style that would later feature in Octopath Traveler, while also adding numerous contemporary elements. This blend of the classic and the modern resulted in two sequels: Bravely Second for the 3DS and Bravely Default 2 for the Switch.
The release of Bravely Default Flying Fairy coincides with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for June 5.
