This past weekend saw a significant reveal regarding Marathon, but Bungie is quick to shift focus onto what’s next for its flagship shooter. The announcement for Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, along with the upcoming year’s content, is slated for May 6.
“Join us on May 6, 2025, as we showcase The Edge of Fate and the future of Destiny 2,” Bungie noted in a social media update. An image that accompanies the announcement features the emblem of The Nine, a clandestine group that has been a part of Destiny’s rich lore for many years.
The launch event is scheduled to begin at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST on May 6. While Bungie has yet to confirm the viewing details, fans should keep an eye on the studio’s YouTube and Twitch channels for updates.
Though we are still awaiting substantial information about the upcoming Destiny 2 content, Bungie has provided some clues. The developer is shifting from annual expansions to “medium-sized” expansions occurring biannually, akin to the Rise of Iron expansion from the original Destiny. The first of these will transport players to a destination inspired by the Metroidvania genre.
A countdown that hinted at the anticipated date for the next expansion, previously referred to as Apollo, has suddenly been removed from the game’s interface. It remains uncertain if the previously mentioned July 15 date will hold, but further clarity is expected in the coming weeks.
After spending 8 hours with Marathon, I don’t believe Bungie’s extraction shooter will emerge as the next big hit like Helldivers 2, but it also doesn’t seem likely to flop like Concord.
