As Capcom strives to unveil its initial free update for Monster Hunter Wilds, an influx of new players keeps bolstering the action RPG’s already expansive community, which has now grown to over 10 million adventurers.
A recent announcement from Capcom reveals that Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved over 10 million sales worldwide, merely one month following its phenomenal launch in February. This impressive milestone occurred just days prior to the game’s significant title update set for April 4, which Capcom promises will introduce “a fan-favorite monster along with the Grand Hub, a new in-game location where players can gather and interact.”
Hitting the 10 million player mark is no small feat, but it’s not the first remarkable record that Wilds has set. The new action RPG surpassed sales of Monster Hunter: World, Capcom’s previous blockbuster, by 40% in its launch month in the U.S., selling over 8 million copies within just three days – “the quickest a title has reached this level in the company’s history,” as Capcom noted at the time.
The game also experienced over 1.3 million players on Steam shortly after release, surpassing other major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring in the ranking. In comparison, Monster Hunter: World’s highest Steam peak was 334,684 at launch—a figure that Wilds easily eclipsed. As of last year, Capcom disclosed that World had reached 25 million copies sold, constituting over 25% of the entire series sales.
It appears Wilds is on track to potentially surpass World as the top title in the Monster Hunter franchise, having already secured nearly half its sales and only a month into its journey. Our Monster Hunter Wilds review labels this latest installment in Capcom’s two-decade-old franchise as “the new pinnacle of the series,” hailing the recent launch as an “early contender for game of the year.”
