Capcom’s The Disney Afternoon Collection May Be Heading to Nintendo Switch
Capcom’s beloved The Disney Afternoon Collection could be making its debut on the Nintendo Switch nearly nine years after its original release, thanks to a recent rating from the ESRB that reveals new publishing details. Capcom has a longstanding history of re-releases, with their iconic franchises like Mega Man and Ace Attorney receiving the collection treatment time and time again—save for the elusive Mega Man Legends, which remains a pricey gem for collectors.
Originally launched in 2017, The Disney Afternoon Collection was crafted by Digital Eclipse and assembled six classic NES titles from Capcom, including fan favorites like DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, and Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Notably, DuckTales stands out as one of the absolute best games in the NES library.
What’s puzzling is that, despite being NES titles, Nintendo platforms entirely missed out on this collection upon its initial release, which took place just a month after the Nintendo Switch hit stores. However, this oversight may soon be rectified, as the ESRB has newly rated The Disney Afternoon Collection for both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Interestingly, the listing cites Atari—current owner of Digital Eclipse—as the publisher instead of Capcom, which published the original collection.
While specifics remain sparse, it seems likely that we’ll see the same lineup of six NES games reimagined for the Switch family. Ideally, it would be awesome if the collection also featured other Disney Afternoon titles that made their way to the SNES, like Bonkers and Goof Troop (the latter of which was developed by Resident Evil mastermind Shinji Mikami). Given Digital Eclipse’s track record in enhancing previous Disney collections to include titles like Capcom’s version of Aladdin, there’s plenty of hope that we might see some similar magic unfold here.
