Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Gets Harder After Game of the Year Win

Sandfall Entertainment recently celebrated its Game of the Year triumph at The Game Awards by rolling out toughened versions of several bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and introducing a brand-new area. Just days later, a nerf hit the scene, inadvertently creating a nod to those who managed to tackle the challenge before the adjustment. In the most recent patch, the developers changed a bit of Verso’s Drafts, stating, “Nerfed the hardest boss in Verso’s Drafts (red lifebuoy) by moving it slightly to make a quest easier.” This area bursts with color, offering puzzles and battles that reward those brave enough to engage.
One of the highlights is a diving board where players take a leap into a minigame that requires landing in colored buoys. The final buoy—yes, the red one—is notoriously infuriating. Many players have found themselves stuck, trying to master the landing.
“Took me two damn hours,” one Reddit user lamented. “My issue wasn’t just landing in the red circle; it was that the splash never registered, so it wouldn’t complete.” Another echoed the frustration with, “Ready to be done with it!” With the recent adjustments, players who conquered this challenge before the nerf are looking for a little recognition: “Finally, I can brag about beating it pre-nerf!” opined one gamer, while another added, “Honestly, it was fine and perfectly infuriating the way it was! Can we get a Red Lifebuoy medal to immortalize our achievement?”
Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of bragging rights among friends. While the update addresses various minor bugs, nothing hits quite as hard as making that diving activity just a tad more enjoyable.
The lead developer of Phantom Blade Zero mentions he’s been taking cues from the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 team, particularly the advice to “cut things” and “polish the rest” in the kung fu action RPG.
