It’s been confirmed that Deltarune will be available on the Switch 2, and that’s not all – this new version for the Nintendo console features an exclusive area designed specifically for Switch 2 users.
The official website for the Undertale sequel announces this special addition, which takes advantage of the Switch 2 Joy-Con’s innovative mouse controls. Creator Toby Fox describes it as a “very small SPECIAL ROOM which takes advantage of using MOUSE CONTROLS ON TWO CONTROLLERS AT ONCE, only possible on the Nintendo Switch 2!” He encourages fans to check out the new Deltarune trailer for a glimpse of this unique feature.
If you catch the trailer, look for the room around the 38-second mark. If you’re a fan of Undertale and Deltarune who can’t secure a Switch 2 immediately, there’s no need to worry – Fox assures us that “if you can’t get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 right away, the other versions of the game also have THE SPECIAL ROOM,” albeit with a different control setup to compensate for the absence of mouse controls.
It’s certainly comforting to hear, but there’s more – Fox also emphasizes that there’s “no meaningful difference in content quantity, dialogue, setting, music, etc. between any version, so you will have a full package of fun no matter which you get!” As he candidly puts it, “No one gets left out!” This is reassuring, especially for long-time fans of Undertale who have been eagerly waiting for further developments in Deltarune.
In total, Deltarune has been in development for over six years, with Fox revealing last fall that the anticipated Chapters 3 and 4 will “100% come out in 2025.” At the end of 2024, the popular developer began an online thread with regular updates about the forthcoming chapters, recently confirming that the initial four chapters will be playable starting June 5 – which coincides with the launch of the Switch 2 itself.
