The highly anticipated third and fourth chapters of Deltarune are set to release in June, and developer Toby Fox has announced that players on PS4 and PS5 will be able to earn trophies. However, acquiring all of them promises to be quite a challenge, as they will present a “pretty hard-core challenge.”
In a newsletter specifying the launch of Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2 on June 5 (making it a launch title for Nintendo’s new console), Fox mentions some minor variations in the game across different platforms. The Switch 2 edition will feature a “very small SPECIAL ROOM which takes advantage of using MOUSE CONTROLS ON TWO CONTROLLERS AT ONCE.” Meanwhile, PlayStation players will have the opportunity to hunt for the new trophies, yet Fox cautions gamers about the challenging tasks that lie ahead.
“PLEASE listen,” he warns, “I make no endorsement that you actually attempt it! Even knowing of its mere existence will only bring you frustration and anguish! Honestly, it may be one of the worst ideas I’ve ever had. Perhaps no one will even try. Maybe that’s for the best after all… I think it will be too late for most of you anyway…”
In light of this alarming reminder, Fox has yet to disclose any details about the new challenges. Past experiences, like battling that notorious skeletal boss in Undertale back in 2015, indicate he is capable of designing some truly difficult encounters. However, this could be a whole new level of challenge. Many are speculating we might have to locate numerous hidden collectibles or perhaps play through the entire game hundreds of times without taking a hit. Let’s hope that’s just speculation, Mr. Fox.
The newsletter also reveals that the complete bundle of Deltarune chapters 1-4 will be available for $24.99, with future chapters expected to be released as free updates. This means players “only have to buy the game once,” and Fox expresses his hope that as more chapters are completed, “you’ll feel like this game was a super super super super good deal.”
