Would KPop Demon Hunters Have Gained From Dispatch’s Cut Character?
In a recent chat with Eurogamer, Dispatch writer and AdHoc Studio co-founder Pierre Shorette shared an intriguing tidbit about a potential character that nearly made it into the popular game. This hero, dubbed Winter, was envisioned as a “K-pop star” with what Shorette described as a “Korean idol-y face,” giving him a unique flair reminiscent of a “Saja Boy undercover.”
However, game director Nick Herman had a different image in mind, recalling that Winter “dressed like a Japanese homeless man.” Yet, Shorette was quick to clarify, saying, “But the vibe was one of those homeless people where you’re like, damn, you should be on a runway.” It’s that kind of contrast that could’ve added a fresh twist to the game.
AdHoc couldn’t have predicted that KPop Demon Hunters would explode in 2025, prompting a reflection on what might have been. The team acknowledged it was a significant missed opportunity not to include Winter. “We actually had a love triangle with him,” Shorette revealed. “He was the one everyone was after. Yeah, that would have been great. We should do that for Season 2. If there is a Season 2!”
It’s safe to say Dispatch, the TellTale-style superhero workplace comedy, has turned out to be a remarkable success, defying expectations. Selling over one million copies within just 10 days, it reached a milestone that has made the prospect of a second season more promising than ever, especially now that total sales have surpassed two million.
Currently, Dispatch is available on PC and PS5, with plans for a Nintendo Switch port set for January 2026. As for its popularity, Witchfire’s lead once remarked that Steam will always take precedence over the Epic Games Store due to gamers not wanting to “cheat on [their] home library with some other shop.”
