In an exciting update for fans of the classic JRPG, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined will feature a brand-new ending that players can unlock. Producer Takeshi Ichikawa shared this thrilling detail during an interview with Game Informer, noting that even those well-versed in the original game will encounter fresh content based on their decisions throughout the adventure.
Ichikawa stated, “Reimagined follows the narrative of the original story, but depending on some of the […] player choices, players will get to see a new conclusion that’s never been seen before in previous iterations. So, even players who have played previous versions of Dragon Quest VII, they’ll still get to have this fresh narrative experience with Reimagined.”
What’s New in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined?
Square Enix is revamping Dragon Quest 7 with the intention of appealing to modern audiences. Ichikawa mentioned that “nowadays, players are much more accustomed to games with darker stories,” and the game is known for its often sorrowful themes. The remake aims to enhance these emotional elements, making it resonate better with today’s gamers.
Beyond just enhancing the story, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined trims the original’s lengthy narrative by eliminating “subplots that have little or no direct relevance” to the main quest, while introducing “entirely new scenarios.” This streamlining should make the experience feel more impactful and engaging.
Impactful Choices Lead to Unique Endings
While Ichikawa didn’t dive into specifics about which choices will affect the story’s direction, it’s reasonable to guess that dialogue options will play a significant role. For long-time fans like myself, this level of story agency is a welcome addition, as the series has typically relied on linear narratives.
Endings have always been a noteworthy aspect of the Dragon Quest series, featuring various “true endings,” alongside good and bad outcomes. However, Ichikawa’s comments suggest that players’ choices will lead to different endings in a way that feels unprecedented for the franchise. If I’m remembering correctly, this would mark a significant shift for Dragon Quest.
