It’s official – The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion appears to be on track for that long-awaited remaster. Recent images showcasing a polished version of the classic 2006 RPG have emerged, reportedly discovered on the website of game developer Virtuos.
Reddit user Taurnil revealed these images today, stating that they stumbled upon what seems to be in-game screenshots while “inspecting a random image element.” Other users have since contributed more visuals, including side-by-side comparisons of the original and this purported remake, highlighting significant graphical improvements.

Although the link shared by Taurnil to the found images has become inactive, Eurogamer confirmed that these images were indeed hosted on Virtuos’ servers. Furthermore, additional assets have been collected on Imgur for viewing.
The buzz surrounding this discovery coincides with Bethesda’s acknowledgment of Oblivion’s 19th anniversary, where they posted a “Happy Anniversary” message. However, fans are still hopeful for more significant news, as many commented on the lack of any major updates leaving them eager for an announcement.
Speculation around an official remake continues, with insights from industry insiders. Notably, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb suggested that an announcement regarding an Oblivion remake might be imminent, potentially dropping as early as late April (thanks to Windows Central for the tip).
Tom Warren from The Verge also backed this claim, noting on Bluesky that the remaster’s release could be forthcoming. He added that back in January, he indicated that Microsoft was eyeing a late spring or early summer release, suggesting that late April aligns with their timeline.
For now, we will need to keep an eye on both Bethesda and Virtuos for any official updates. Last month, during the oblivion’s anniversary, there was no indication from Bethesda regarding a revival – the company’s support account recently stated they had “no official information on an Oblivion remake” (thanks to TheGamer). Nonetheless, developments seem to be accelerating quickly.
