After 11 years since its debut, Elder Scrolls Online is continuing to evolve with the launch of the Writhing Wall event, marking a first for this MMO. Zenimax Online Studios is now inviting players to speculate which platform and region will be the first to breach the wall and unlock access to Eastern Solstice.
What is the Writhing Wall Event?
For those unfamiliar, the Writhing Wall event represents ESO’s inaugural live, server-wide collaborative world event. Throughout this event, players on each server will work in unison to dismantle a massive wall that has been blocking the Eastern Solstice region from players. Once the wall is breached, Eastern Solstice will become accessible to all players on that server, provided they have the appropriate content pass.
Insights from the Team
In a discussion with GamesRadar+, lead encounter designer Mike Finnigan expressed excitement about the event. “We have some internal betting markets on which servers are going to unlock it first, but we’ll leave that,” he shared. “I’m pulling for Xbox EU, but we’ll see. That’s a dark horse, I think.”
Community Collaboration and Competition
The Writhing Wall event is crafted to foster teamwork among players within a single server, generating a sense of community. However, there’s an inherent competitive edge as different servers vie to complete the challenge first. Finnigan noted, “There’s always been that healthy competition, and we just wanted to broaden that appeal.” He believes this event could build a stronger server identity, with players showing pride in their platform. “I’ve heard people say, ‘Oh, I play on NA, but I’m going to jump over to EU and do this.’ We’ll see how that plays out and how motivated they are to participate. I think that competition will be beneficial for the game,” he added.
Joining the Event
The Writhing Wall event is currently active, and all players can travel to Stirk Island to engage with the introductory quest and start contributing to the overall effort, regardless of whether they possess the content pass. However, if players wish to enjoy the rewards after the wall is down, acquiring the content pass will be essential to access the new area.
