Embark Studios Tackles Cheating Issues in Arc Raiders
Developer Embark Studios has taken notice of the cheating problems plaguing Arc Raiders, revealing plans to roll out new tools and enhance punishments to help clean up the game. Community admin Ossen shared this important update on the official Discord server, stating, “We’ve seen the discussion around the topic of cheaters in ARC Raiders. Please know that we are taking this issue very seriously and are listening to and acting on your feedback.”
Depending on your region, platform, or playtime, your experiences may vary. It’s not like every single raid is filled with invincible players wielding full-auto sniper rifles, but the community chatter indicates that cheating is increasingly becoming a significant concern. Personally, I’ve spotted a few on PC myself. So, with that recognition in mind, Embark has committed to escalating its anti-cheat initiatives.
In the coming weeks, the team plans to implement substantial changes to its rulesets and roll out new detection mechanisms aimed at identifying and removing cheaters. “This includes updating our Anti-Cheat systems for improved detection and bans, as well as applying client-side fixes specifically addressing the ‘out of map’ glitch,” the statement notes. “Furthermore, we are introducing tools for streamers to help mitigate stream sniping.”
These “out of map” exploits are particularly rampant due to their simplicity—without the need for bespoke or paid cheats, players can easily gain a significant advantage with a little unconventional movement. Once positioned, they can gain an unobstructed view of the battlefield, wreaking havoc from above. Fortunately, these exploits appear to be solvable compared to the ongoing arms race against cheat tech.
However, one area that’s still a bit murky is the nature of the bans discussed in the statement. Arc Raiders has gained a reputation for being lenient with cheating infractions, often opting for 30-day bans where many developers would impose permanent ones. With Embark ramping up the anti-cheat efforts, we might see a shift toward harsher and more frequent punishment.
Additionally, I know many players, particularly on PC, have voiced frustration about issues like mouse macros leading to instant kills with semi-auto weapons, such as the Kettle rifle. Whether these concerns will fall under the new anti-cheat measures remains unclear.
Previously, Embark rolled out hotfixes for other exploits that allowed players to access locked rooms unfairly by turning them into fiery deathtraps unless properly unlocked. It’ll be interesting to see whether “out of bounds” players end up facing similar fiery consequences.
In lighter news, a player controversially suggested recycling rubber ducks, leading to accusations of “blasphemy” and perhaps even a blacklist from a noted duck collector: “You mess with the duck, you mess with all of us!”
