The concluding installment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy stands out for many reasons, not least of which is the continuity of its development team over the decade-long project. Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, believes that this consistent collaboration has significantly contributed to the unique quality of both Remake and Rebirth. He intends to maintain this team dynamic for future projects even after the release of Part 3.
“A particularly noteworthy aspect of working on these titles, which is relatively uncommon in the gaming industry, is our ability to retain almost the same team throughout all these titles,” Hamaguchi shared in an interview with GamesRadar+. “It’s typical in the gaming field for a team to be disbanded once a large project concludes, leading to the necessity of rebuilding for the next endeavor.”
Hamaguchi expressed his appreciation for this unusual stability, stating that “we certainly haven’t had to deal with that for the Remake project—key members of the core team have remained consistent across all three games. This continuity has truly facilitated our growth and refinement as a unit, enhancing our skills and capabilities with every title we develop.”
Looking Ahead After Rebirth
In light of the polarizing conclusion of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Hamaguchi assures fans that the third part is securely handled, and the finale of this JRPG will “truly reward everyone for sticking with us to the end.”
Hamaguchi noted that development for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is progressing impressively: “Much of the JRPG is already playable,” he mentioned enthusiastically, ensuring fans that “development is going extremely well.”
The entire Final Fantasy 7 remake initiative officially commenced in 2015, meaning the developers will have dedicated nearly a decade to this series. That timeline will naturally extend until Part 3’s completion, and Hamaguchi is eager to leverage this extensive collaboration.
“Once we’ve released the third game in the series, and hopefully it becomes a significant success, we’re definitely looking at what comes next. It would be intriguing to see what this team—built through our time together—creates,” Hamaguchi reflected. “I’m not sure if it’s the best way to put it, but the connections and relationships within the team have certainly deepened and strengthened over this period.”
While Hamaguchi remains uncertain whether their subsequent project will be a completely original IP or another Final Fantasy title, it is evident that this talented group is committed to sticking together moving forward.
