For nearly a decade, the team behind Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has largely remained unchanged at Square Enix, and director Naoki Hamaguchi hopes to keep it that way. He expresses this sentiment regarding the development of Part 3 and even beyond it: “I believe once we release the third installment and, fingers crossed, it achieves great success,” Hamaguchi shared with GamesRadar+, “we’ll certainly explore new opportunities. It would be fascinating to see what our team, which we’ve built together, can create. I’m not sure if it’s the best way to phrase it, but the bonds and relationships within the team have significantly improved and strengthened.”
Hamaguchi further elaborates, “At this stage, I can’t disclose what our next project will entail—whether it will be a completely fresh game or a new intellectual property, or something innovative within the Final Fantasy franchise. However, I genuinely look forward to what’s ahead. I believe that fans who have followed our progress with the Remake series will eagerly anticipate this thrilling new gameplay experience. Personally, I’m excited about the direction we’ll take afterward.”
Development Updates and Future Plans
It’s apparent that the release of Part 3 is still some time away, but Hamaguchi assures that updates are approaching “in the not-too-distant future.” This extended timeline only fuels speculation about what the development team will create next.
Creative Aspirations
In a discussion about the creative process, the director noted, “Regardless of how much AI may attempt to influence the creative aspects of game development,” he emphasizes that his team aspires to be “talented enough creators” to produce outcomes that surpass AI capabilities.
