I’ve got a soft spot for JRPGs—heck, RPGs in general—but fitting them into my schedule? Now that’s the real boss fight. Turns out, Naoki Hamaguchi, the co-director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, understands this struggle. With the recent release of the first installment on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, he included some nifty features aimed at easing that pressure.
In a Twitter post, Hamaguchi thanked players for checking out these new versions, which hit the scene almost five years after the original launched on PS4 and PC. The ports come packed with improvements that enhance the gameplay experience. For instance, there’s a so-called god mode that grants you full HP and MP, plus unlimited spamming of special moves. Those pesky boss fights? They suddenly transform into dazzling light displays.
And that’s not all! You can also fast-forward cutscenes, so you spend more time actually playing instead of watching. Updates rolled out for PS4, PS5, and PC ensure that existing players can benefit from these enhancements too, building on what was introduced with the PS5 release. Hamaguchi highlighted that this all aims to let players tackle the game at their own pace. He even jokes that maybe, just maybe, some folks could finish the Remake in a single day.
Honestly, I might just be tempted to speedrun it, even with my ever-growing backlog glaring at me. What’s key here is the chance for everyone to dive into this fantastic game a bit more conveniently than before. There’s no better materia than that.
As Final Fantasy 7 Remake arrives on the Switch 2, Hamaguchi encourages fans of Smash Bros, particularly those drawn to Cloud and Sephiroth, to give his game a shot “just to experience these really cool characters.”
