If you’re one of the many who felt let down by the latest delay of GTA 6, which shifted from May 2026 to November of the same year, there’s a glimmer of reassurance from a former Rockstar employee. Mike York, who previously worked as an animator on both GTA 5 and GTA Online, suggests that another delay is highly unlikely. In an interview with Esports Insider, he notes the game’s hype is on a precarious balance. “If Rockstar Games delays GTA 6 again, then the hype around the game will die down almost completely,” he explains. “Right now, nobody is searching for GTA 6. Everyone knows there’s no news, there’s nothing to talk about. There’s a point where you delay something so much that you start to make people angry.”
You could definitely feel that sense of frustration after the last adjustment to the release window. A member of the Polish parliament even labeled it a “huge scandal,” and many were left disappointed without even a new trailer to quench their thirst for updates on the highly anticipated sequel.
November 2026 might be set in stone, and York believes it’s an ideal time for Rockstar to launch the game. “If you want to sell a big amount of video games, then that’s the perfect time for GTA 6 to come out, being just a month before Christmas,” he points out. “Usually, companies only delay these things once or twice when they need to, so I think it will come out around that time.” There’s certainly logic in his argument, as hitting the holiday shopping season could be a game changer for sales.
However, Rockstar is navigating other challenges at the moment, including a series of firings that have led to accusations of union-busting within the studio, which could draw scrutiny from the British government.
It’s clear that we will eventually play Grand Theft Auto 6, but the exact timeline remains uncertain. For now, we can mark our calendars for next November—and hope that this date sticks.
