Epic Games has stirred up quite the buzz in the Fortnite community by removing guns from their latest game mode, dubbed Delulu, where proximity chat dominates the gameplay. However, after realizing the players’ reactions, they’ve decided to bring back firearms alongside the new feature that allows for custom matches, accommodating as many as 80 players. Yet, the fans weren’t ready for the firearms to return. Many are yearning to maintain the humorous antics of tossing stink bombs instead. “Who’s going to break the news to him?” asks Fortnite content creator FitzyLeakz, commenting on Epic’s extensive update notes for Halloween that describe the decision to eliminate guns as a “bold experiment.”
Fortnite’s Delulu mode not only features proximity chat but has also led players to engage in quirky roleplay, resembling Solid Snake, and running in-game shops. Those with early access are already dubbing it “the best thing to ever happen” to the game.
Recently, Epic Games took action against “thousands” of players over the weekend, as many believe the new proximity chat mode has been a misstep.
In response to player feedback, Epic noted, “We saw a lot of community members enjoying the opportunity to socialize and have fun when shooting wasn’t the main focus, but we also listened to your feedback that sometimes it’s simply more enjoyable to shoot your new allies and finish a match promptly instead of going for a heal-off.” Starting from October 24 for the Delulu phase, players can once again unleash their firepower like a dog on a spaceship aimed for victory. The company further implied, “We might keep altering the meta frequently.”
The inclusion of customizable matches brings an exciting twist, encouraging players to gather friends, perhaps even from their college dorms. Of course, a match can also be conducted with “as few as 1” player. Regardless, setting up a custom Delulu round could be a wild way to resolve disputes.
