Recently at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, FromSoftware made a noteworthy announcement that caught many by surprise: they introduced Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition alongside an exciting new title exclusively for the Switch 2 called The Duskbloods. Unlike the studio’s typical focus on single-player experiences, The Duskbloods marks a shift towards multiplayer gameplay, a step that has contributed to the company’s recent achievements.
Despite this new direction, the developers have reassured their fans that this multiplayer format will not become the company’s primary focus in the future. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, shared in a recent installment of the Nintendo Creator’s Voice series that “as previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn’t mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring was also announced, and we still intend to actively develop single-player-focused games such as this that embrace our more traditional style.”
