Gears of War: E-Day is firmly on track for a 2026 launch, despite its noticeable absence from The Game Awards 2025, as confirmed by developer The Coalition. It’s not uncommon for a major title that’s slated for the following year to miss an appearance at such a high-profile event, and sometimes this can hint at production issues or potential delays. However, The Coalition has made it clear they didn’t want any speculations regarding E-Day’s status after last night’s show. The 2026 release window remains intact, though we’re all eager for more details, like a specific date—or maybe even a season.
“Emergence Begins. 2026,” tweeted the official Gears of War account right in the thick of the awards ceremony.
Amidst all the Game Awards excitement, Xbox also revealed a January Developer Direct that will showcase titles from the Fable and Forza Horizon 6 studio.

Forget about The Game Awards for a moment; The Coalition and Xbox have kept things relatively low-key about E-Day since its announcement, so it’s encouraging to hear confirmation that it’s still slated for 2026. The storyline will dive into the years leading up to the original Gears of War, focusing on younger iterations of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. Original voice actors John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro will reprise their roles, adding a sense of continuity to the series. Set during Emergence Day, the narrative will depict the Locust Horde executing a large-scale assault on Sera, marking the beginning of the Locust War that longtime fans are well-acquainted with. Announced in 2024, there were heavy rumors about a release this year, but Xbox quickly clarified the game would land in 2026, a timeline that remains unchanged.
