PlayStation has shared fresh insights regarding the anticipated Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yotei, revealing intriguing background details about the lead character, Atsu, along with confirmation of exciting new weaponry she will wield in the game.
According to a tweet from the news outlet @Okami13_, these enticing updates originate from the game’s official listing on the PlayStation website, which has recently been updated to include additional information. While certain elements, such as the setting in 1603 and the timeline being 300 years after the original game’s events, were previously disclosed, the new information enhances our understanding of the narrative. The plot will revolve around warrior Atsu as she “rises from the ashes of her homestead.”
Atsu is driven by a sorrowful past that propels her on a vengeful quest. The game’s description reveals that she is “filled with fury and determination” as she seeks retribution for her family’s deaths, stating, “Every odd job and bounty will provide the coin she needs for her journey.” Players will also shape how she “fights, survives, and evolves the legend of the Ghost.” Combat is expected to evolve from Ghost of Tsushima with the introduction of new weaponry options, including “ōdachi, kusarigama, and dual katanas.”
In addition to the new weapons, PlayStation hints at “new mechanics” and “gameplay improvements,” although it does not specify what these entail. However, it does highlight the stunning environments within the game and confirms that it will be available on PS5, featuring “enhanced performance and visuals on PlayStation 5 Pro.”
While a specific release date for Ghost of Yotei has not been announced, it remains slated for launch sometime in 2025. The recent updates to its listing may indicate that more information could be forthcoming, so fans should stay alert for any developments.
Ghost of Yotei incorporates firearms and melee weapons this time around, and the developers aim to avoid the “repetitive nature” that plagues some open-world games.
