If you’ve been actively engaging in the fight for freedom in Helldivers 2, you’ve likely noticed some ongoing stability challenges that have emerged. Bugs and glitches appear to be proliferating as if there’s a hidden Terminid nest embedded within the code, leaving the developers exhausted from clarifying what isn’t causing the issue. Over the past 20 months since the launch of Helldivers 2, the team at Arrowhead Game Studios has faced quite the whirlwind. The game’s success has exceeded initial expectations, necessitating regular updates and maintenance to ensure players can enjoy taking down both insect and cyborg foes.
However, the accumulation of numerous patches and hotfixes over time has resulted in a scenario known as technical debt. This predicament occurs when short-term fixes lead to long-term gameplay issues. It’s a tough situation to navigate since support is typically handled based on the immediate needs of the community and the game itself.
Community Feedback and Developer Response
Players of Helldivers 2 are expressing their frustration over performance discrepancies. In response, Shams Jorjani, CEO of Arrowhead, acknowledged, “It’s not good enough,” while promising that “a fix for some of the most immediate issues is being prepared.” He openly admitted that the team has been struggling with what he described as “crippling technical debt,” particularly lamenting that they “didn’t hit the mark” with the recent Into the Unjust update.
Challenges Ahead
Jorjani further expressed, “We’re not getting a passing grade on performance and stability” at the moment, indicating a recognition of the hurdles the game is currently facing. A mere 60-day action plan would not suffice to resolve all the existing problems, leading to an adjustment in the team’s internal roadmap aimed at directing efforts back to desired performance levels.
On platforms like the official Discord server and various social media channels, players have put forth several suggestions, including the theory that the anti-cheat software, Gameguard, may be contributing to the issues. In response, Jorjani has grown weary of this narrative. “I’ve answered this a bajillion times. We see no evidence of [Gameguard] having performance impact. Will investigate more,” he stated to another user on Discord.
He reiterated that the software has “negligible impact,” labeling it a “boogeyman” while agreeing it’s worth conducting another thorough investigation before dismissing it entirely. As for any forthcoming changes, it’s probably best not to anticipate the removal of Gameguard in the near future.
“The beaches will dry before the Helldivers do”: Players have turned Seyshel Beach into a new version of Malevelon Creek, complete with propaganda, eliciting a stunned reaction from Arrowhead.
