Kojima Productions Celebrates a Decade of Innovation
Kojima Productions has officially hit the ten-year mark, and founder Hideo Kojima is setting his sights on 2026 as a pivotal year for the studio. It’s time to “stay grounded and lay solid foundations” as they gear up for what Kojima refers to as their “Third Phase.” It’s hard to believe it was more than a decade ago that Kojima Productions took shape, following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the subsequent split with Konami.
The studio has made quite a name for itself with titles like Death Stranding and its upcoming sequel, and now they’re ready to broaden their horizons with new projects: OD and Physint. To commemorate the start of the new year, Kojima took to Twitter, stating, “In 2026, we will move forward with the ‘Second Phase’ that leads into Kojima Productions’ ‘Third Phase.’” This year, he notes, will focus less on the globetrotting of last year and more on establishing strong groundwork.
After all his experience with stealth mechanics, Kojima humorously claims he could make stealth games “while sleeping.” However, with Physint, he aims to “blur the lines between film and video game.” It seems like there’s a lot in the works!
On the subject of OD, Kojima humorously admitted that even he’s still figuring out what this horror game is going to entail. He teased, “I can’t say exactly what it is yet, nor do I know if it will work out.” But the excitement continues with progress being made on both OD and preparations for the espionage-themed Physint. He’s diving deep into casting, scanning, and performance capture shoots, bringing cinematic quality to the gaming experience.
Kojima’s plate isn’t just full with games; he’s also developing a film adaptation of Death Stranding in collaboration with A24, as well as an animated series inspired by the game. Plus, he’s hinted at “several events” lined up for this year—which fans of his work surely won’t want to miss.
As his studio celebrates its tenth anniversary, Kojima also reflects on another milestone: 2026 marks his 40th year in the gaming industry. “Thank you, as always, for your continued support and for backing Kojima Productions,” he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his fans.
While he calls Death Stranding 2 his “masterpiece,” it’s clear that, in Kojima’s eyes, his “latest work” will always be the pinnacle of his creativity.
