An intriguing point about the Nintendo Switch 2 is the secrecy surrounding which developers currently have access to the console’s development kits. Recent speculation, including fresh rumors circulating today, suggests that only prominent third-party developers have been granted these kits. However, the latest insights into this topic indicate that there could be notable exceptions.
As shared by journalist Imran Khan, a significant third-party publisher was reportedly denied access to Switch 2 development kits due to concerns about their chaotic and unstable environment at that time. Nintendo was apprehensive that instability could lead to the publisher shutting down studios, which could result in the loss or mishandling of the dev kits. Further confirmation from Khan revealed that the publisher in question was Embracer Group. He also noted, “I don’t know if their plan changed (this story was from maybe eight months ago), but I know companies that split off from Embracer ended up going back to Nintendo and renegotiating, and they were more amenable.”
