Monsterpatch is a charming RPG that combines elements from both Pokémon and Stardew Valley, achieving an incredible 1500% funding on Kickstarter with a total of $234,000 raised. This success has unlocked a new stretch goal that will introduce fossils styled after Animal Crossing and a museum feature.
When we covered Monsterpatch a few weeks back, it had managed to secure its Kickstarter funding in just 16 minutes, amassing nearly $60,000 against a peculiar target of $11,597. Now, the solo developer, Sean Young, has attracted almost twenty times his initial funding goal, highlighting the strong demand for retro-styled RPGs that integrate monster catching and farming mechanics.
Since our last update, Monsterpatch has made impressive strides, rapidly unlocking eight stretch goals that include shiny monster variants, three hidden legendary creatures, and a Nintendo Switch port, which seems quite fitting.
Upon surpassing $225,000 in funding, the goal for adding fossils was reached, which brings in digging locations where wizards can utilize shovels to uncover treasures. Much like in Animal Crossing, players can excavate fossils to have them evaluated and potentially showcased in their local museum. Unlike Animal Crossing, however, this game features “an ancient spell” that can “bring ancient MoNs back to life under certain conditions,” which sounds truly exciting.
There are just two more stretch goals available for support on Kickstarter: a Treasure System at $250,000 and The Game Corner at $300,000. The specifics of these features remain a mystery, but it likely won’t be long before they are revealed as enthusiastic backers continue to contribute to the project.
Monsterpatch is expected to launch on Steam in 2025.
In the meantime, here are some similar games to Pokémon for those looking to catch ’em all.
