Many enthusiasts are eager to learn about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, particularly regarding its features, pricing, available games, specifications, and more. A pressing mystery revolves around how pre-orders will be handled once Nintendo provides additional information about the new console. Although there have been whispers of an April 2nd date, concrete details have been sparse.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson recently disclosed further insights. According to him, this information stems from “internal emails and documents provided to Insider Gaming from a prominent US retailer.” While the retailer remains unnamed, it is reportedly bracing for a swift sell-out of Switch 2 units as soon as pre-orders launch due to limited allocation from Nintendo.
Interestingly, while these documents reference the widely speculated June release window, the pre-order date deviates from recent speculation. Specifically, April 9th is mentioned, following a week after the Switch 2 Direct presentation. As per Henderson, the documentation includes a strategy for a “Pre-Order Coming Soon” announcement post-Direct, alongside a countdown timer leading to April 9th. Nintendo is expected to confirm the exact timing during the Switch 2 Direct event.
Adding to the intrigue of this rumor, there’s newfound information regarding potential pre-order bonuses for those securing the Switch 2 ahead of time. Henderson notes that the documents refer to an “exclusive collectible coin” that will be awarded to pre-order customers. However, it’s unclear whether additional bonuses will be offered or what other retailers might provide for Switch 2 pre-orders.
