During the recent Switch 1 Direct presentation, Nintendo capped off the event with an exciting announcement: Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Although fans will have to wait until next year for the release, the excitement is palpable, especially considering it’s been over ten years since the last installment of Tomodachi Life was available, which was on the 3DS. Since the launch of the Switch in 2017, many fans have eagerly anticipated this title. The level of enthusiasm surrounding this game might just surprise you.
The announcement trailer is currently making waves, not only in Japan but also across the United States. For instance, just a day after its release, Nintendo of America’s Instagram post featuring the trailer has garnered an impressive 298,000 likes—and counting. By contrast, the Metroid Prime 4 trailer, which was also showcased during the same Direct, has only received 44,000 likes on the same platform. Interestingly, the only metric in which the Metroid Prime 4 trailer is currently leading is the total views on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel.
The game’s popularity in Japan is even more pronounced. The official post by Nintendo’s Japanese X/Twitter account showcasing the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream trailer has amassed 400,000 likes, a figure that easily surpasses the likes garnered by the Switch 2 reveal trailer back in January. This achievement makes it the most liked post in that account’s history. Additionally, the trailer itself has exceeded over a million views on Nintendo of Japan’s YouTube channel. The buzz surrounding this new title is undeniable, and it remains to be seen whether it will translate into commercial success.
