Keanu Reeves has expressed his eagerness to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand in the Cyberpunk franchise, even though Johnny met his demise long before the events of the first game. Recently, the creator of the series hinted at potential ways for Silverhand to make a comeback, likely steering clear of the neurochip concept this time.
During a livestream hosted by CD Projekt Red with Mike Pondsmith, the mastermind behind Cyberpunk, he shared his enthusiasm for the actors involved, revealing that he finds the idea of Silverhand’s return just as appealing as Reeves does. “Not that long ago, I saw that Keanu would like to find a way to come back from the dead and play Johnny again,” he remarked. “I have ways to do that, Keanu, contact me,” he added playfully.
Keanu Reeves’ Enthusiasm for Cyberpunk 2
No one has a clear picture of how the story will unfold in Cyberpunk 2 following the conclusion of Cyberpunk 2077, but Keanu Reeves has made it clear that he wishes to be involved: “I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”
Returning to the character poses some challenges since Johnny has been deceased for many years, and the multiple endings of Cyberpunk 2077 add further complexity to his narrative. It raises intriguing possibilities, such as whether he might exist as an AI beyond the Blackwall, although that would solidify one ending that should have remained a player’s choice.
Exciting Future for the Franchise
Pondsmith humorously highlighted the star power involved, saying, “Let me get this straight. You got Keanu Reeves, then you get Idris Elba,” before teasing another role for a different star. “What’s next? Scarlett Johansson?… Scarlett, you know, I have roles for you. You can do anything.” He further emphasized the significance of casting actors who genuinely wanted to embody their characters, stating, “they worked really well for the characters. They were people, actors, who wanted to play those characters so they immersed themselves in it.” This passion likely explains his openness to the idea of Reeves returning in Cyberpunk 2, which is currently in development.
Additionally, Cyberpunk 2’s multiplayer features are seemingly on the horizon, as CD Projekt Red is looking to recruit an engineer to develop “high-performance online experiences” and enhance multiplayer systems.
