It looks like Larian Studios, the minds behind Baldur’s Gate 3, might be juggling a couple of major announcements right now. With The Game Awards looming, the PlayStation Store appeared to leak a next-gen upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition. On top of that, some European trademarks suggest we might see an even bigger reveal for the Divinity series that could tie into the mysterious statue set to appear at The Game Awards.
Earlier today, the account PlayStation Game Size flagged a new PS5-native version of Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition, which caught the eye of Larian’s publishing lead, Michael Douse. He responded with a cheeky, “Hey we weren’t meant to announce that yet.”
When responding to an eager fan on Twitter, Douse remarked that there aren’t any current plans for a new Divinity: Original Sin 3 but reassured fans that when they’re ready to reveal what’s been in the works, they will definitely share it.
EUIOP trademarks 019288427, 019288404, and 019288420 were all filed recently, linked to representative ID 26588 from a German law firm that, specializes in tech and media law, including expertise in “Computer & Video Games.” This same firm has previously secured trademarks for Larian, particularly those related to Divinity.
Now, while it’s exciting to speculate about these developments, let’s keep our enthusiasm in check for now. It’s solid evidence, but it doesn’t directly state that it’s for Divinity: Original Sin 3. Remember, the original Divinity series kicked off way back in 2002 before Original Sin changed the game in 2014. It’s possible that Douse is just playing coy about a new threequel under NDA; however, he appears to have been quite choosy with his wording, which leaves room for the possibility that we might get a new Divinity project that’s not tied to the Original Sin title. After all, we haven’t seen a simple game named Divinity in a long time.
Larian mentioned back in May that they were still determining if a new Divinity game was on the horizon.
