Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – A Fresh Take on the Caped Crusader
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is stepping into the iconic shoes of the caped crusader with some serious legacy on its shoulders. Instead of merely retelling Batman’s cinematic history, this game pulls from various beloved elements—like the intense Penguin chase featured in The Batman and the unforgettable Joker portrayed by Heath Ledger—to weave an original story that unfolds in an open-world Gotham, reminiscent of the Arkham series. And to bring this vision to life, TT Games has tapped Shai Matheson, a voice actor known for roles in Final Fantasy 16 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, to take on the Dark Knight.
“I’ve been a Batman fan my whole life, so I feel like it’s all in my veins,” Matheson said in an interview with GamesRadar+. “I’ve watched the films since I was probably too young. Batman Returns is my favorite film of all time, regardless of Batman.” With such a deep-rooted passion for the character, it’s no surprise he approached this role with a mix of excitement and apprehension.
Matheson’s admiration for Batman has shaped his preparation. He revealed, “I watched everything before doing it – I watched all the films again, I watched a lot of clips on YouTube of different things, different Arkham clips, just tried to immerse myself.” It’s clear that he wasn’t going to take this role lightly.
The actor expressed his feelings about joining the legendary ranks of Batman voice actors, noting, “First of all, in voice, Kevin Conroy is the go-to, the greatest of all time. So, it’s very scary.” Joining such an esteemed group adds a layer of pressure, he admits, saying he’s “petrified to join this list of people that have contributed their voice and their acting talent to this game and to this character.” Yet, even with the weight of expectation, Matheson remains “unbelievably humbled to be doing it. I feel like a competition winner to just be involved.”
James Gunn hinted that Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight aims to offer players an experience that delves deeper into the character than ever before, describing it as an opportunity to explore Batman like “maybe as fully as they ever have.” Fans are buzzing with excitement, eager to see how this new interpretation unfolds in a world that promises both nostalgia and innovation.
