Cooperative horror sensation Lethal Company has been in Steam Early Access for over two years now. Following the launch of his long-awaited text adventure, Welcome To The Dark Place, indie developer Zeekerss has shifted focus back to enhancing Lethal Company while putting thoughts of a potential sequel, Lethal Company 2, on hold. In a conversation with GamesRadar+, Zeekerss mentioned, “I haven’t had anyone inquire about a sequel to Lethal Company, but I’m aware that players are eager for updates! It’s still in early access because there’s much more that needs to be completed. Regarding Lethal Company 2, I envision something that exceeds my own aspirations.”
Although there’s a small possibility that Zeekerss could one day recruit a team to assist in creating Lethal Company 2, he enjoys working solo for the time being.
### Solo Projects and Future Aspirations
Weapons director Zach Cregger also has plans for a sequel, yet he is prioritizing his work on Resident Evil.
With the success of Lethal Company, Zeekerss is returning to his passion: producing unique retro horror experiences. He shared that he’s excited to explore other creative ideas independently. “In the future, if I find the courage to form a team, it might happen, but I’m currently more thrilled about pursuing different solo projects,” he explained regarding the speculated sequel.
Last year, Zeekerss admitted to feeling a bit drained after dedicating a significant amount of time to Lethal Company. However, working on Welcome To The Dark Place—conceptualized since his early days as a Roblox developer around 2015/2016—proved to be refreshing due to its emphasis on narrative. “This project has shown me that I truly enjoy crafting mechanics in traditional games because it offers a broader array of challenges,” he remarked. “For Welcome To The Dark Place, instead of mechanics, I utilized rules and patterns that I devised, which I chose to adhere to. One established rule is that players must always listen to doors before opening them. In a traditional game, that would typically be pre-coded functionality; however, here I maintain full control over the player’s actions.”
With Welcome To The Dark Place now completed, Zeekerss believes he will have fewer distractions. Thanks to Lethal Company’s success, he feels empowered to pursue whatever projects he desires in the future. When asked about his upcoming plans, he stated, “Post Lethal Company, I have several ideas in mind, some larger and some smaller. I’m eager to create a sequel or a spiritual successor to The Upturned, a game featuring dual-hand motion control for environmental interaction, a party game collection reminiscent of Wii Play, an open-world stealth game focused on being hunted, and another project that involves a car. However, my current priority is wrapping up Lethal Company.”
