This article has been revised to correct a mix-up regarding the number of games and years. The remainder of the information remains as originally published.

Activision’s long-awaited Call of Duty movie is finally progressing, now with a director and writer on board. According to a recent press statement from Paramount, Peter Berg has been chosen to direct, write, and produce the film, alongside Taylor Sheridan, who will also take on writing and producing duties. The upcoming live-action film aims to captivate its vast global audience by staying true to the beloved elements of the series while simultaneously reaching out to new viewers.

Berg is widely recognized for his work on the sports drama Friday Night Lights, which starred Taylor Kitsch, as well as for directing major films like Hancock featuring Will Smith and Deepwater Horizon. Sheridan is renowned for crafting successful series such as Yellowstone, along with Tulsa King and Landman. The duo previously teamed up on the critically acclaimed Western film Hell or High Water, which garnered four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay.

Exciting Developments for the Call of Duty Film

News broke that Paramount’s new leadership is comparing the upcoming Call of Duty film to the successful Top Gun: Maverick. They’ve stated, “We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence.”

    Initial Announcement and Development Timeline

The concept for a Call of Duty movie was first revealed in 2015, originally directed by Stefano Sollima, with plans for a 2019 release. However, in 2020, Sollima disclosed that the project had been indefinitely postponed. There were no further developments until September 2025, when Paramount and Activision confirmed their partnership to bring the film to fruition. Currently, the Call of Duty movie does not have a confirmed release date, but it is set to be released in theaters.
