The upcoming Switch 2 from Nintendo is generating a lot of excitement, especially with its stunning graphics. However, it is important to note that the console and its new games for Switch 2 will have a significant price tag. Mario Kart World, an exclusive title for the Switch 2 at launch, will retail for an impressive $80 in the United States, marking a $20 increase from the $60 price of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Besides the flood of news surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the pricing for Mario Kart World has been officially confirmed on their official site. Similarly, for Donkey Kong Bananza, which is slated for release on July 17, players will pay a lower price of $70.
Interestingly, data from the My Nintendo Store UK shows that physical copies of these games will be priced at £75 and £67 respectively. It appears that the digital versions of Switch 2 titles may offer a more budget-friendly option, with Mario Kart World priced at £67 and the new Donkey Kong title at £59.
This pricing strategy is not yet reflected on the US pages for these titles, leaving us to wonder if such differences will apply globally or remain confined to Europe. Personally, I have a great fondness for physical games; proudly displaying their cases on a shelf adds a certain charm. Yet, if digital options can present a more affordable alternative, we may see a shift in player preferences this generation.
The Switch 2 is anticipated to launch at a price of $450 (£395), and there will be a bundle available that includes the console along with a digital version of Mario Kart World for $500 (or £430). For those eager to play the new racing title upon release, this bundle represents the most economical way to do so.
Mario Kart World, the exclusive racing game for Switch 2, will have its own special Nintendo Direct this month.
