Nintendo has yet to reveal all the intriguing features of Mario Kart World, as players have stumbled upon large vehicles situated throughout the tracks, inviting them to take control.
Recent insights from YouTube creator GetMadz on Twitter highlight one of these vehicles: a robust boat that allows players to navigate on water. In the shared footage, this boat appears accessible in the new Free Roam mode. However, GetMadz mentions that he “found it in a race but couldn’t manage to get into it,” indicating that it can be utilized during competitive races as well.
“I got to play Mario Kart World today and found something cool :]”– GetMadz
GetMadz is not alone in uncovering this feature; a player on Reddit reported similar findings at one of the Switch 2 events. They stated that they encountered “large special vehicles with question marks which you can enter and control.” They elaborated: “In one play session, I became a gigantic truck and surged ahead, clearing obstacles, and later transformed into a large boat, crushing Cheep Cheep in the ocean.”
As mentioned by others, we got a brief look at this feature during the recent Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, specifically in the reveal trailer for Mario Kart World. At a certain timestamp, viewers can see Birdo drive into the back of a sizable truck during a race, only to later charge through a barrier, causing further disruptions on the course.
Presently, it’s uncertain how many of these vehicles are available or how long players can engage with them at any one time. In GetMadz’s footage, the boat vanishes once he returns to land, likely due to the fact that boats aren’t designed for road use. There may indeed be restrictions to prevent continuous use throughout race events, but only time will tell.
Fans may receive additional information during the upcoming Mario Kart World Direct, scheduled for April 17. Nintendo has hinted that “there is more to Free Roam mode” than previously disclosed, enticing viewers to tune in for more details. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long to learn more.
Mario Kart World is poised to be one of the most highly anticipated titles for the upcoming Switch 2, launching alongside the console on June 5.
