Nier Automata has captured the hearts of many players, and it’s clear that the love for this game runs deep. However, one must wonder: just how much Nier Automata is too much? Following the recent crossover with The First Descendant and the upcoming collaboration with Naraka: Bladepoint, Square Enix’s iconic title is now making its way into yet another application—Desktop Mate.
Desktop Mate is a unique app that boasts a few thousand active users, allowing players to personalize their screens with “officially licensed, super-cute characters” that “wander around your desktop, lounging on windows and playfully engaging with your mouse,” as described on its Steam page.
Exciting Collaborations
The collaboration with Desktop Mate comes soon after the dynamic partnership with The First Descendant, where players were treated to a trailer showcasing the powerful synergy of Nier Automata’s characters in that universe. Fans continue to express excitement about the game’s expansive crossover potential.
In addition to previous partnerships, Nier Automata is set to join forces with Astro Bot, making it clear that this beloved title continues to thrive in collaborative ventures.
Upcoming DLC Features
Developer infiniteloop recently revealed that Nier Automata’s 2B will be the next character introduced to Desktop Mate as a paid DLC after Hatsune Miku. This upcoming pack will feature voiced lines in both Japanese and English, a Pod 042 unit that may appear occasionally on screen, and motion capture animations performed by Kaori Kawabuchi, the original actress from the game.
The official blog post mentions, “The Desktop Mate version of 2B includes many motions that fans of the original game have come to expect.” It adds slightly quirky details: “Her signature movements have been accurately replicated, including subtly crossing her legs, sitting with her back turned, and adjusting her knee-high socks,” which may raise a few eyebrows among fans.
Another exciting aspect of this DLC is that 2B’s outfit changes after a specific animation, allowing users to experience her various motions with a newly altered costume, likely referring to her more tattered look after performing her self-destruct sequence.
Mark your calendars for October 9, as that’s when the Desktop Mate DLC is set to launch. Pricing details haven’t been revealed yet, but similar crossover packs usually retail for around $16/£12.
Nier Automata’s creator, Yoko Taro, expressed his thoughts on his creative journey, stating, “I don’t really have any regrets” about his work, but added, “I never felt like I carried out anything completely.”
