The pricing of the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and its accompanying games has sparked considerable debate ever since the recent Switch 2 Direct presentation over a week ago. Compounding the situation, Nintendo had to delay the pre-orders for the console in both the United States and Canada shortly after the Direct due to various tariffs enacted by the U.S. government.
As of this writing, most countries have seen temporary reductions in tariffs. For the next three months, the tariffs will only be 10%. The sole exception remains China, where tariffs remain significantly elevated. It’s fair to describe the situation as quite complicated for Nintendo; however, analytical firm Niko Partners suggests there may be a slight glimmer of hope on the horizon.
Niko Partners indicated that “with tariffs on Vietnam temporarily reduced for the next 90 days, we expect Nintendo to absorb the 10% tariff to maintain the launch price at $450. However, this price may be subject to increase if tariffs are raised after the 90-day period. It serves as a cautionary reminder.” Nintendo is set to reveal when pre-orders will commence in both the U.S. and Canada, and we’ll keep you updated on this, along with any potential price adjustments.
