Nintendo has been relatively tight-lipped regarding the details of the Nintendo Switch 2’s specifications, choosing instead to emphasize the significance of its game lineup. Recently, IGN participated in an exclusive hardware-centered roundtable discussion in New York, featuring Takuhiro Dohta, the senior director of the Programming Management Group within the Entertainment Planning & Development Department. During the session, he revealed to participants that the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will offer support for technologies such as DLSS and Ray Tracing, although it will ultimately be up to developers to decide if they wish to implement these features. IGN highlighted that Nintendo did not clarify which version of these technologies will be utilized or if they have tailored them specifically for the Switch 2.
“We utilize DLSS upscaling technology, which is crucial for our game development,” said Dohta.
“Regarding the hardware capabilities, it can output to a television at a maximum resolution of 4K. It’s the choice of the software developer to determine whether to use that as a native resolution or to upscale. This certainly presents a multitude of possibilities for developers.”
When addressing the Switch 2’s GPU capabilities, Dohta provided a similarly ambiguous answer regarding ray tracing. “Yes, the GPU is indeed capable of supporting ray tracing,” he confirmed. “Like DLSS, this adds another tool for software developers to utilize.”
