During the Nintendo Direct event in March 2025, the company unveiled and subsequently launched Nintendo Today, an app dedicated to providing updates and information about the Nintendo Switch 2 and more. To demonstrate its commitment to delivering authentic announcements, Nintendo utilized the app to share the release date for the upcoming Zelda movie. However, what caught my attention the most was the app’s feature that provides strategies for conquering classic video games, including the original Super Mario Bros. for NES, a title that debuted over four decades ago.
Nintendo Today enables users to select their favorite game series. For those who choose Mario, a post titled “Guide to the World of Super Mario” can pop up, detailing the first world of the iconic NES game. “Welcome to the first world of the Mushroom Kingdom,” reads the app’s description. “Goombas and Koopa Troopas will challenge you as you navigate through complex courses both above and beneath the ground.”
Accompanying the text are screenshots showcasing World 1, including the airborne platforms in level 1-3 and the confrontation with Bowser in level 1-4. Following that is a section with tips. “Use the lift in World 1-2 to climb to the last ceiling and find pipes leading to World 2, 3, and 4,” the tip advises.
And that sums it up. As someone in his mid-30s who embarked on his gaming adventure with a used NES, it’s hard to fathom not having an instinctual grasp of how to access the World 1 warp zone. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to think about the countless Mario enthusiasts of 2025 experiencing the original game for the first time via the Nintendo Switch Online library.
Within the app, users can also opt for a “Classics” category, proudly marked with an 8-bit Mario graphic. So far, nothing from this classification has appeared in my feed, but I find myself intrigued to see what will show up. Personally, I’m hopeful for some valuable Clu Clu Land insights.
This is our definitive ranking of the best Mario games ever produced.
